With the Elections coming up, you might be wondering exactly what the Committee do! Well in order to help you, I’ve put together a few thoughts on what our roles in the Society actually are! Some Committees are more formal than others, so these are the roles that the Constitution envisages the Committee members carrying it out! We’ve tended this year to be less strict about who does what and the lines have blurred a lot! This has worked well for us, but a differently staffed committee might choose to do things more formally
This is an indicator of what each role will nominally entail!
President
– Nominal Head of the Society
– Chairs Committee meetings
– Represents the Society (At UGMs/Society Forum etc)
Secretary
– Sends out the weekly emails
– Keeps minutes of Committee Meetings
– Sets up Facebook Events
Social Secretary
– Runs the Socials/Workshops
– Plans the Socials/Workshops
Treasurer
– Is in charge of the society funds
– Has final say on what funds are spent on
In addition to this, each committee member should be willing to put forward ideas for workshops (you don’t have to be studying English though – just ideas is fine!) and to get involved with helping run this website and the Facebook group! Running the Society is a lot of fun – and it will look good on your CV/HEAR in the future! (Though I apparently can’t have a HEAR…grumbles!)
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask us on the Facebook group or drop me an email at Secretary.KCWS@Gmail.com
